Introduction

When designing a Web page layout it is important to consider a few things before you begin. You need to ask yourself,

How am I going to design my Web pages and organize my content for my Web site to be most effective?

The answer to this question is going to vary depending on what languages and tools you have at your disposal, who your audience is and the nature of the content.

Web design involves the use of different languages, such as XML, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript and CSS. These languages display differently in different browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Netscape to name only a few. It can be tedious work and very frustrating at times, but the more you learn, the more successful you will become in creating a user-friendly and browser-friendly Web site.

CSS & XML

Two languages that have made quite an impact on Web page design are CSS and XML. It is helpful to understand these languages, why they came about and how they have impacted the Web before you begin designing Web sites.

As a Web designer, you must remain up-to-date on the current Web standards or you will be quickly left behind in the dust. As like all technology, the Web is evolving very rapidly. Other technological devices such as cell phones and BlackBerry's are now utilizing the power of the Web. That means Web standards needed to change in order to accommodate them.
